About Allyson

I am a recent college graduate from Loyola Marymount University! My service stands out by how I use my previous knowledge and tips to help my students do the very best. I use different strategies that appeal to the age of the student I am teaching. For example, when teaching addition to younger kids, I use blocks to help the student understand counting. I ensure that the goals my student and I set at the beginning of our tutoring sessions have been met by the end of our sessions.

I love helping young students improve their grades and reach their full potential. I also like to help others get better grades and learn.

I started teaching when I was in ninth grade. I am a well rounded student, but my strengths are definetly in Algebra 1, language arts, and lower math levels. I love working with kids, so my teachers saw that and encouraged me to become a math tutor. Then, during my sophomore year, my friend who is an immigrant needed help with her language arts homework, so I started tutoring her as well.

I was an Algebra 1 tutor during my freshman year in high school. I succeeded in the class, so my teacher asked me to help other students during my breaks. I also have tutored younger kids that are currently in sixth grade. I helped them in math while they were in third and forth grade. In addition, I have experience tutoring in language arts. I tutored a sophomore in high school while I was a freshman to help her with her advanced grammar and vocabulary skills. I also tutored her in reading comprehension to help her achieve an A in her english class.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I will text them some general questions about themselves and ask them what they need specific help in. I will learn what their strengths and weaknesses throughout the first couple sessions. Also, I will ask them what their goals are and what they want to accomplish from taking the sessions, and I will make sure that we meet them.

I have worked with elementary school students (3rd-5th grade) and high school students (9th-11th grade).

I would advise them to hire a teacher that loves helping those their age and have knowledge in the subject they need help in. Also, the teacher has to be patient and kind.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what they don't understand and ask their teacher to help them in that certain area. Also, students should think about how they can plan before each session before asking the teacher what they need for the classes every time. I like to start my classes right away to avoid wasting any time, so I personally tell my students what to have available before class.
