About Silas
I make sure the student understands what I am saying as I go through the lesson. This involves asking the student if they comprehend what I'm saying and clarifying the concepts to them. After explaining a concept, I would review an example and see if they can walk through it themselves.
I love when students have that "Aha!" moment when they finally understand a concept they were previuosly struggling with.
I tutored high level math in college for more than 2 years. I also have some experience tutoring at the elementary level. Additionally, I used to be certified by the College Reading and Learning Association at the Master Level. (This certifcation required consistent renewal which I have not done, hence the term "used to")

I ask a lot of questions. First, I have them explain what they do understand. Then, I will bridge the gap from where they are to where they need to be. This typically plays out by reviewing a problem they've attempted themselves or went through in class. Then, I will explain how to complete the problem. As I explain, I often ask the student if they understand and encourage them to ask for clarification.

Details
I like to charge $30-$50 based on my availability. If there is a situation where I am tutoring more than one student from the same class, I will charge for both individually but at a lower rate: 2 students for a $5 discount per student or 3 students for $10 discount per student. I also don't charge for the first 20 minutes of travel if I am coming to your place or an agreed-upon spot. Any time that passes the 20 minute mark will be charged at the previously agreed rate.
