About Haley

I will take my time to make sure they understand every step. If there is a math problem with multiple steps, I will make sure they understand every step before moving on to the next one.

I love math and being able to help kids. I grew up in a not so nice family household and math was pushed on me, but luckily I loved math. But I have watched my sister growing up with a learning disability and have had to help teach her and walk her through things to make sure she understands.

I started with helping my younger sister with her learning disability and I have loved it since. I stayed away from it while I was in college, just trying to stay caught up there, but I am ready to work with children again.

I have an accounting degree and I use math every day at work.

About the lesson

I like to spend the first 15 minutes, or more if we need to, to discuss what they struggle with and what they need to focus on. I know there can be multiple things they need to work on, so from there we can set up a schedule if we need and goals of where we want the child to be and when. I never want to jump in without knowing what the parents want for a child.

I have worked with students from 12 to 18. I have worked with kids with learning disabilities and I have worked with kids who were just there to please their parents. Every kid is different and will take a different approach to teach them.

I would say find a teacher that you enjoy talking to and makes you feel comfortable. You want to make sure they push you to learn but aren't pushing too hard. I have watched kids push super hard and they just get burned out. It is okay if you are not able to do it right away, we can teach you how to do it.

My sister has been trying to pass her SAT test on the math section for over a year, she is a junior in high school right now. We studied so hard for 2 months just trying to make sure she had a shot this time, and she passed with flying colors.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I always suggest to think about where do you want to be in Math? Where do you see yourself in 10 years and what kind of career? Math will be in everyday life but it helps to know what you hope to be doing so you know what you need to focus on.

My initial visit with the child I like to charge $40 just so I can learn about them and understand what they need and then we can go from there on what we (parents and myself) come up with that is fair and matches the plan we are wanting to follow.
