About Silpa
Friendly and professional Online Teacher. Adept at planning individual /group classes or using pre-written lessons and tailoring the lesson plans to suit the needs of the target individual/group.
With primary focus on providing a conceptual understanding of Math concepts, mental math and speed are also focused on.
Certified & Trained Vedic Mathematics Teacher from the Vedic Maths Academy, UK. My teaching style incorporates Vedic Maths methods as applicable, to help simplify the concepts in school Maths.
With an immense passion for Teaching and Mathematics, I adopt a very student-centric approach. My greatest achievement recently has been a mental shift from "Maths lesson? I hate it!" to "When is the next session gonna be? I am loving this!" in my most recent student.
I thoroughly enjoy the tutoring sessions with my students.
What amazes me about the human mind is the beautiful way in which it evolves from "I don't know" to "Let me try" to "Oh! I think I know it" to "I GOT IT!"
All this evolution with just some clues and a few words of 'Yah! you are getting there...'
What also amazes me is the creative ways of today's student... and how much these children challenge me in their special ways...
I am learning with every session and that's what I enjoy about my work.
'Math is a Universal Language' indeed! Wherever we go in the world 2+2 will always be 4. What I also love is the Universal application of the language I teach. :-)
I was a qualified IT professional, immensely passionate about teaching.
As a student I stumbled upon a middle-aged lady who needed to excel in a Maths certification exam to retain her job - she chose me as her tutor and this provided me the opportunity to explore my Math Tutoring skills. The day she got her results she came straight to my house and hugged me with tears in her eyes.
That incident was fuel enough for me to explore teaching full-time, giving up my IT job. :-)
ü Trained Mathematics Teacher – Completed the ‘Vedic Maths Teachers Training Certification’ program with distinction from Vedic Maths Academy(UK). Also, completed the ‘Advanced Diploma in Vedic Mathematics’ course.
ü Passionate teaching professional with State Rank in my intermediate.
ü Hold a M.S. Computer Science degree from University of South Florida, Tampa,US.

Step 1: Ensure that a rapport is built with the student - understanding his/her interests, likes/dislikes, school, etc. First 2 minutes in every session can be used to ease out the tutoring atmosphere.
Step 2: General Assessment - Where does the student stand? Pick a specific topic and start with simple to complex concepts. Can stop when we have a fair understanding of where to start the session. This can be done with every new topic to be covered.
Step 3: Start with the known and move to the unknown. Interactive sessions with the students will always work, rather than a one-sided lecture.
The teaching style will be student-centric and will be adopted based on the ongoing discussion.
Step 4: When the concept is understood, work on some Practice questions together.
Step 5: Ask the student to provide a summary/revise what was learnt in the session.
Close the session with next session plan(if any) and worksheets assigned as applicable until the next session.
I have worked with students with varied mental capabilities :-)
- A student was quite interested to learn Math, seemed to have gotten the concept well in a session...and in the very next session, would start with a clean slate! More of memory-sinking teaching methods were required here.
- Not so confident kids with a fear for Maths. The focus needed to be on eradicating that fear...start with simple concepts to build their confidence first.
- Some quite excited students - fast grasping - however, over-confident (thanks to their capabilities) would always score less owing to silly mistakes. Practice, right complexity mix and the right focus required here.
- Weak students are easy ones to deal with - work on the concept with them and work on the practice problems together and they are sure to get autonomous soon!
Approach Math with an open-mind....and Math will open up to you!
A quite excited student of mine - would jump on a problem as soon as I write it down. He rushed through it with little thought and when I brought up another example by the side targeting to correct the mistake he made.....he would jump back again saying - 'Oh dear! I didnt think of that'!
The challenge has been to slow him down :-)
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is it that you need to improve on? What is the targeted result of tutoring sessions when you sign up for one?
- concepts,
- Practice,
- Homework help,
- Speed,
- Simplifying the subject.

Excellent! My daughter's confidence was very low in Math, and now with Silpa's help she's feeling good and getting clarity on fundamentals. There's an improvement every day! Thanks Silpa!
I found Online tutoring helpful in 3 ways
1. Ease- One to one coaching convenience at home
2. Feedback- White board usage and written feedback shared with each session
3. Concepts - Focus on concepts rather than trying to complete pending home work.
By the way, all this done without stepping out of the house. Highly recommended! While paying a detailed attention to my daughter's strengths and weaknesses, Silpa works on getting the concept across with clarity. My daughter's grades have improved and yes, she looks forward to her Math sessions.
