Matt is an engaging and engaged teacher. Experience levels in our class of four older women ranged from one who had previously been unable to read music to one who had been an accomplished pianist at one point in her life. I fell in the middle - I took lessons as a child, but would never have called myself accomplished - and I hadn't touched a piano in many years. We all progressed and benefited from Matt's teaching style.

My grandson, now 8, has been taking piano lessons from Matt for more than a year. My grandson has a passion for music. He plays drums, guitar, and ukulele in addition to piano. He also has ADHD and has a tough time staying focused. Matt is extremely flexible. He takes my grandson’s enthusiasm for music and channels it in creative ways to keep the lessons challenging and interesting for him. Matt has even encouraged my grandson to compose his own music using a computer program (did I mention my grandson loves technology, too?). I honestly thought my grandson wouldn’t stick with piano lessons, given his focus issues. But Matt seems to have the magic formula for giving my grandson the right combination of discipline and flexibility to keep him on track! This truly is personalized instruction tailored to the student’s strengths and interests.

I took lessons from Matt for over four years (middle/high school), learning upright bass and electric bass. He kickstarted my love for music - classical, rock, jazz - you name it he can do it! He is enthusiastic about music, provides excellent and clear instruction, and I always left each lesson excited to work on what I learned.

I am now entering college on a full tuition music scholarship, am a member of the National Youth Orchestra, and taking on professional gigs. His instruction and guidance was the catalyst for these achievements. Overall, I highly recommend Matt to anybody who is looking to learn and have fun with music.

Matt, as a working Jazz musician, brings his performance experience to the students in a realistic manner. Matt's selection of classic jazz tunes helped establish the baseline we needed to know as we gained playing experience as a solo or ensemble performer. Enjoyed those opportunities when we got to play with Matt sitting in. You could feel the musical connection with the jazz world. Real special!!
