About Patricia

I tailor my lessons toward the goals of the student, not what I believe they should learn. I also teach basic music theory (how to read and understand music) and music history. You may feel confident that I will never let you sound bad when you sing! I also employ basic music therapy techniques in my lessons.

I very much enjoy when people realize that they are able to sing confidently, freely, and with a lot more joy than before they started. All I need is someone who is willing to try. So many people say they'd always wanted to take voice lessons but were too afraid of sounding awful, and I always tell them that I run a judgement-free zone and that if there is a mistake to be made I have made it myself.

I opened my studio in 2014 when I was a music student myself. I came to singing late in life. I've studied in the United States and in England.

My first degree is in English Secondary Education, and I taught middle/high school in the states, in the UK, and in Germany. Both my parents were teachers, so I grew up asking questions and learning how to find answers. I have just begun work on a Master's in Humanities.

I have a BA in Music and Vocal Pedagogy. In my studies I focused on helping people learn how to sing. I opened my studio in 2014. I've also performed locally in many venues and in many styles (classical, Irish, jazz, swing, Big Band)

About the lesson

I like to talk with them first and find out what they like to sing, if they've sung before in any capacity, and what specifically they'd like to address in their lessons. It's important to understand each other's vocabulary and intentions. Many people are intimidated by voice lessons, and with them being virtual, there's complete safety and privacy.

All ages, all skill levels, but I prefer beginners (of any age!)

We were once students too. No one is born knowing how to sing perfectly and beautifully. Learning to sing can be hard work, but you will feel yourself progressing a little each day.

Before COVID hit I was serving on the Harlem, GA Arts Council, and I began a series of house concerts in the Arts Council HQ. I was able to bring in some of the area's best musicians to perform, and raise money for the HAC. I have had to stop thanks to the pandemic.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask yourself why you want to take voice lessons. You are seeking me out for instruction, so that means you will have to be willing to change and try new things, even if it feels scary and unsure. I will not let you fail yourself.

Details

I generally charge $40 for a 50 minute lesson. If money is a problem, we can work something out. I like to be paid for one lesson before we do another.
