About Bo

I've been doing portrait and school group photography since 2001. When the lighting is clicking with the model and creatively things are flowing very well, it's a great feeling knowing the client will be satisfied with the work (with a MINIMUM of photo editing - I like to get it right when I take the shot). I always say the people skills are probably more important than anything technical. My job is to make it non-technical and have fun with the client.

Just started helping others with what they wanted to learn. also taught alot of drumming (privately and in groups at the high school and college level), and also taught vocal performance while working with HS choral programs.

Studied for a time at an adult school specializing in photography, attend a few seminars, but did alot of self-study. Began working as a portrait/group photographer for some public high schools, and while working as a sound engineer for Disney, was once hired to cover additional photography for the All-American College Band one summer. I am also a professional musician in addition to sound engineer for Disney, and studied music in college. Apparently, my whole life has been art ;)

About the lesson

Find out what their passion is for their photography, and help them to achieve that with the gear they have. I tend to introduce concepts as-needed and cover basics to help them understand what is going on when they make a photograph.

Mostly average working-class types. None of them have alot of money, but have a great desire to learn and express themselves.

To really have an idea of what they want to do with what they're learning. There's basic methodology and general knowledge to know, but if that info can be given within the context of what they want to do, chances are they'll learn it quicker and hold that information because it pertains specifically to them.

During this pandemic, I've been doing music concerts out of my garage for my neighbors who were going crazy as we were shut in. Everyone distanced, but most had a good time and were very appreciative to have a reason to at least get out of their homes for a few hours.

It's difficult to decipher gibberish, but I can understand sometimes being a sounding board as they formulate the correct question, and in a one-on-one situation that can work, but when you're in a classroom situation, it's difficult as there is a limited time you can allot for each student.
