About Charles

I am a lifelong learner as well. I am currently studying for medical school. What I know from over 12 years of high school and 5 years of college and countless time spent studying for my own interest, is that education is a relationship. I will help you first understand the why and the greater impact a subject may have on yourself. Why should you care? Why should I continue reading and when have I satisfied myself? Can I, or will I, ever pick a subject that makes me feel a sense of passion and genuine wonder. What does a drive to finish a study session look like and what does it mean to retain most of the information? I am confident in my answers to these questions and am confident in my ability to present them in a way that will hit the ground running, using your work as a background and building the right relationship so you will understand why you are doing what you are doing and can power through a study session.

I enjoy tutoring because it reflects to me a great example of what higher education is, making complex ideas relatable and concrete. I think about how there was once a time where the law of gravity was just an esoteric, floating idea that had no relevance to the daily life of you and I. Then only once did we start sending men to the moon did people concretely realize why discoveries of that kind make our lives better and more enriched and exciting. These are the types of examples I think of to answer the "what for" question. I pursue tutoring because I want others to have experienced just once a sense of understanding and awe at scientific or mathematical discovery and how it has made their lives better.

I am frankly a beginner. I am trying to relate what I learned in school and the countless hours revisiting ideas that are probably taught in high school and middle school. I believe that since I have shown I understand them myself that this will be an excellent opportunity to show how I can explain them to others.

About the lesson

students new to a subject need to find examples that will keep them rooted in the applicability and reason one is studying. Concepts, sometimes abstract, are necessary for every field. If you are studying biology, classes/kingdoms or organ systems are concepts that require the correct method. Once students know how to think about their concept conceptually with the right examples and the right method then they can get new information wholesale by relating it to the knowledge they already know. Just like my old Spanish teacher would tell me, "You are already fluent in one language, you just need to figure out the sounds and grammar in another language, the rest will come wholesale with a dictionary.
