About Savanah

As someone who loves to learn, I find joy in helping students make connections and find excitement in gaining understanding. I have 5 years of tutoring experience, working with students from elementary school all the way up through the university level. I graduated in the top 10% of my high school, just finished my bachelor's degree in physics at BYU with a 3.81 GPA, and will be starting my master's degree in physics this fall. I know that each student learns differently, and am excited to learn about YOU and YOUR personal learning style and help you be successful in your school work!

I worked as a private math tutor for a little boy with ADHD when I was a senior in high school, and found that I LOVED helping him succeed. He was so bright, but just needed a different way of teaching than his school teachers were able to provide in a crowded public school classroom. With a little one-on-one tutoring he was able to shine! I continued tutoring as a college student and found the same thrill as I got to know my students and their individual needs.

I graduated in April, 2021 with a bachelor's degree in physics from BYU and will be starting a master's program in astrophysics in the fall.

Physics is very math-heavy, so I am fresh in math subjects from algebra all the way up to calculus 3, linear algebra, and differential equations.

In the last three years I have tutored and worked as a teacher's assistant in physics classes including Physics 1, Physics 2, Modern Physics, physics courses and labs for non-physics majors, optics, thermal physics, computational physics, fluids, and calculus-based physics.

I volunteered as a tutor for the AVID program in high school, helping my peers better understand their course work with the goal of getting them to college. Since graduating from high school I have worked as a personal tutor, university tutor, and university teacher's assistant in the physics department. I have worked closely with many different professors and know what students need to know in order to succeed.

Most importantly, I love working one-on-one with students and helping them to find joy in learning!

About the lesson

I like to start by getting to know the student and his/her interests. Learning works best when it is personalized! The next step is to ask about the student's preferred learning style. Are you a visual learner, verbal learner, kinetic learner, etc? This allows us to gear each tutoring session towards the needs of the student to maximize efficiency. Then the fun begins! We can then dive into the subject material and have fun learning together!

Elementary school students, high school students, university students (physics majors, engineering majors, pre-med majors taking physics classes for their med-school applications)
