About Mindy

Children, teens, and adults in my piano school grow in confidence and creativity as they develop the skills they need for a lifetime of enjoyment at the piano.

I am a life-long student of the piano. I play for pleasure, teach for the joy of it, accompany when I can, and serve as a church pianist and organist. I am a member of MTNA, TMTA, and ADMTA.

I am a 3rd generation piano teacher. My grandmother was my piano teacher growing up, and my mother taught lessons in our home from the time I was a toddler until I was in high school. As a result, I swore that I would NEVER teach piano!

In 2007, some changes in our church congregation left us with very few pianists. I volunteered to teach a few willing people how to play the piano so they could help with music at church. Before the first month of lessons was over, I was hooked.

I have taught piano lessons for thirteen years. It is my joy and my passion! While I chose a different field of study for my degree (B.S. in Health Education and Promotion), I have studied piano my entire life.

I am currently a member of national, state, and local music teacher associations, which provide on-going training and development opportunities for me. I also belong to several world-wide groups of music teachers that get together virtually a couple of times every month to learn from each other.

About the lesson

Preschool Music Classes

Families interested in music classes for their preschoolers learn about and register for my classes through my website.

Students are welcome to come participate in a class for free before registering if joining a class mid-semester.

If beginning a class at a new semester, I host a "Meet the Teacher" event prior to the class starting where families can come and have a sample class all together.

Beginning Group Piano Classes (children, teens, and adults)

Classes are formed based on interest and are not tied to a semester start date. When there is enough interest for a particular class time, we start! A minimum of three students are required to begin a class.

Registration and interest lists are both available on my website.

Families are welcome to schedule an in-person evaluation with me to meet me and check out the school before registering. We will play a game or do an activity to help me assess each student's level of interest and ability. This is a great opportunity for you to ask any question you have and for both of us to see how our personalities mesh.

I have worked with all ages and abilities, from preschoolers to recovering stroke victims.

I recommend that you talk with two or three teachers before you decide who you want to work with. Most teachers will have very similar skill sets in terms of their abilities, but each teacher has their own philosophy and preferred ways of teaching.

Your success at the piano has less to do with my skill set and more to do with how my personality and teaching style match up with your goals.

You won't know who the best fit will be until you talk with a few different teachers.

Details

Preschool music classes are 40-minutes long, once a week. Monthly tuition is $85. There is an annual $40 registration fee that covers materials and supplies.

Beginning Group Piano Classes are 40-minutes long, once a week. Monthly tuition is $110. There is an annual $65 registration fee for children and teens, which covers music and materials.
