About Lucy

I love helping students of any age find a way for music to fit into their lives. Whether you're just beginning, have been playing piano on and off and are making time for it now, have a child interested in igniting their passion, or a seasoned musician in another field-- I'm here for you.

On top of being a concert pianist and touring internationally, I have 22+ years of experience with piano and education, including working with the Nee York Philharmonic's Composer Program, University of Michigan, Mannes Conservatory, Interlochen Arts Academy, for Opera Coaching, Accompanying, and Music Theory.

It's true that as a modern musician, I keep pushing for the development of new skills.

In my studio, we structure lessons with a combination of renowned method books, classical piano music, theory, and improvisation and pop as desired.

OUR STORY

Everyone is creative. Everyone has potential to tap into a creative outlet. But not everyone has the support they need to thrive.

At Pianoforte, we believe in fostering that potential and pushing our students to succeed. We believe that the only difference between a student believing they "weren't cut out for music", and "this is something I love", is what goes on, day in and day out, in the classroom.
We teach because we have been lucky to have been supported by teachers who believed in us. We continue that legacy of evolving with our students and pushing a curriculum that inspires them to grow.

Trained as a Classical pianist and composer at top conservatories around the world, Lucy Yao allows music to go anywhere possible that is unexplored. Lucy has degrees from the Manhattan School of Music in Piano Performance, studied with leading concert artists, and is a pioneer in the industry as an art technologist in Award Winning toy piano duo, Chromic Duo. By redefining grief as a source for uncovering and discovery, her work is created with an urgency to preserve memory and to illuminate joys hidden in the sounds of the everyday.
