About Emma

Experienced and dedicated teacher in Piano/Flute/Voice/Music theory.

I believe that each student is capable of musical success and tailor my teaching to match students' interests as well as learning styles. My students have gone on to win national and international competitions, pass the ABRSM and NYSSMA exams, and enroll in university and conservatory programs. Currently, I am on the music faculty of The Pingry School.

My professional affiliations include Columbia University, Eastman School of Music, and Cleveland Institute of Music. I hold a New York State Music and Bilingual teacher license.

Since I was young, I've always wanted to become a teacher. As my music studies became more serious, I always felt like eventually I'd want to teach. It almost feels like a dream that I get to do two of my favorite things and I enjoy sharing with and learning from my students.

I am a graduate of Columbia University (M.Ed), Cleveland Institute of Music (M.M), and Eastman School of Music (B.M)

I hold a New York State teacher license in Music and Bilingual Education and is currently on the music faculty of the Pingry School.

About the lesson

Typically, I start by getting to know the student's interests, musical or nonmusical. If the student has prior experience, I start by an informal assessment and determine a plan and goal for the student.

Each lesson is a combination of musicianship, fundamental technique, and creativity. In addition to students' musical development, I make sure that the materials are engaging and motivating at the same time.

I've worked with a variety of students, including young beginners (age 3-6), students with special needs (autism, ADHD), students with prior experience (age 9 - 20), and adult beginners. Regardless of the differences, all students share a love for music and desire to express through music.

3. Stay open minded and be ready to embark on a musical journey!

Very recently, I was a teaching artist at the Very Young People's Concert with the New York Philharmonic. Working with the students along with the musicians from NY Phil was one of the most inspiring learning experience in my career.
