About Genevieve

I have been playing piano for 20 years and teaching for the past 7 years. I believe music education should begin as early as possible, so I especially enjoy starting students on their musical journey! I utilize skills I have learned through my own private lessons, my education at University of the Pacific as a Music Education major with an emphasis in piano, and the skills I have learned through my masters degree work at Loyola University Maryland where I am working toward a Master of Educaion in Kodaly Music education. I have experience with the Suzuki Method of piano instruction as well as Alfred and Bastien Methods. I believe utilizing a combination of techniques allows for the best personalized experience for each student. I also teach K-6 general music and 5th and 6th grade band in The Belton School District #124. Please visit my website rigsbymusic.weebly.com for more information

I started teaching piano lessons over the summer after my first year of college. I have been passionate about education since I was in high school teaching swimming lessons and I loved having the opportunity to share my love of piano with students eager to learn.

I hold a Bachelor of Muisc in Music edication from the University of the Pacific in stockton, CA. I have studied the piano for 20 years and I am currently working toward a Master of Education in Kodály Music Edication. I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of different music teachers and with many different students with a variety of individual needs.

About the lesson

My initial lesson is half price and there is no obligation of further lessons. I always bring a variety of materials to beginning lessons to see what the student will enjoy most and what will work best for their ability. We generally work out of a method book for part of the lesson, on theory/technical ability for another section of the lesson and on ear training through games like "rhythm poison" for the final section of the lesson.

I have worked with students between age 3 and 13. I generally prefer to start beginners by 3rd grade, but it is never too late to learn! Through my experience as a general music teacher I have worked with students of a large range of abilities and am always happy to adjust lessons to my students individual needs and pace.
