About Kristen
Hello,
My name is Ms. Kristen and I am a teacher and composer based in Los Angeles California. I absolutely love my job as a teacher and am passionate about helping my students grow and achieve their unique goals.
During this difficult time of COVID-19 I am offering in-person lessons or virtual lessons over zoom.
Teaching notes:
- I curate the lesson materials and my teaching style to my students learning styles.
- Each lesson will cover a balance of theory, technique, sight reading and ear training.
- All genres are welcome! I have a background in classical, contemporary, jazz and pop music.
- I have experience teaching students of all ages and experiences in piano lessons.

The most gratifying part about being a teacher is watching my students achieve their goals and grow in their passion for music.
I started teaching because I wanted to pass on my experience to those around me. I have found so much joy in music and love to share that with my students an those around me.
I have worked as a music teacher for the last five years. I have worked with students of all ages in a private lesson setting, and the classroom setting.

1. Consultation
The initial consultation involves me getting to know my student(s) and their family. This will help me get to know what musical background my student and their family members have has, why they are taking piano lessons and what kind of music they are interested in studying.
2. Basic assessment
The basic assessment will help me understand what level the student is at in sight reading, technique, ear training, and general piano experience. If the student doesn’t have any prior experience, we will start with the foundational piano skills and build from there.
3. Goal setting
Based on our consultation and the basic assessment I will help shape attainable goals for the student. This can be anything from playing a specific piece of music, to performing in a recital.
I have worked with students of all ages, with a wide variety of experience. Some of my students have never played piano before studying with me, and other students grew up with families that were highly musical and came into lessons with a broad knowledge of music.
Never be afraid to ask questions and communicate what you want from your lessons.
I recently attended the Society of Composers and Lyricists Oscars reception. This was a very special event to me because many of the composers and song writers that I admire where in attendance (John Williams, Thomas Newman, Randy Newman, Diane Warren and many more).
