About Ellen

I offer lessons in your home geared to your level of mastery. Lessons include technique, theory, music history, and other aspects of piano literature. I'm using Zoom and Paypal, and send your music through Amazon - no charge to you, if you prefer no contact at this time. Call or e-mail me so we can get you started!

I love seeing that "Ah-Ha" moment when a student understands the relationship of the sound to the printed page. The appreciation of the musical line, the expression of the emotional context through one's own power, is priceless. I love connecting with my students and having pure joy and fun while learning.

I was a high school music teacher with 160 students in my chorus. After retiring, I pursued my first love of piano and wanted to continue sharing the joys of piano music with others, both young and not so young. It's a skill that reflects so many aspects of one's personality and approach to other studies, and indeed how one presents oneself in life. I bring a depth to my teachingthat I think students respond to.

About the lesson

I like to see what style of learning best suits the individual. Then I give practical advice on the practice procedures in order to get the best results. Scales, music history, theory, form analysis and expanding musical knowledge are all componants of a lesson.

I started playing in my youth but gave it up for other pursuits, and always lamented not getting back to it. I finally have, and I'm so glad I did. I dream of being able to just sit down and play at parties or when hosting company, and Ellen is helping me get there. Lessons are fun and tailored to the kind of things I want to be able to play. Progress is clearly evident, and her insight into my trouble spots is impressive. I ask a lot of questions because I'm a curious sort, and Ellen's always happy to oblige. I am having a great time!

Details

I charge $50 per half hour, $40 for siblings. I go to the home, pay for all music and materials. If you prefer lessons over Zoom, $40 per half hour, music included.
