About Ava
Ava’s Piano Studio, based in New York, NY, provides private and group piano lessons for children and adults on the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and online. The studio is led by Iranian-American pianist and educator Ava Nazar, who holds a Master’s degree from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Instruction emphasizes ergonomic technique for healthy, long-term playing and comprehensive musicianship, including singing, movement, ear training, improvisation, composition, and music reading. Students also develop creativity through arranging, making medleys and mashups, and reading lead sheets. Many have earned ABRSM Merit and Distinction results, won competition prizes, and been accepted to selective music festivals.
As a performer, Nazar has appeared at the United Nations, Merkin Hall at Lincoln Center, the American Museum of Natural History, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, National Sawdust, and at universities including Duke and Santa Clara. Festival appearances include the Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Académies Internationales d’été du Grand Nancy, and the Stanford Jazz Festival. She released her debut album, Nahoft, on Parma Recordings in 2025; it was featured on PBS and Classical 24. She has toured nationally with Iranian singer Homayoun Shajarian, performing at venues such as Chicago Symphony Center, Davies Symphony Hall, Jacobs Music Center, and Benaroya Hall. Her teaching background includes Brooklyn Music School and Nord Anglia International School in NYC.
