About Charles

I can coach students in performance technics based on my years of experience as an entertainer.

I also understand a great deal of the construction of music and can teach advanced skills such as improvisation and songwriting.

I performed at a house party as a cocktail pianist and was asked by the family to teach their children. I found that I really liked it and since the children were having a good time with their lessons they told the neighbors and their friends and soon I was off on a new career as an independent music teacher!

I learned a degree from Moravian college in Bethlehem Pennsylvania in music performance in 1991. I have taught as a self-employed instructor since 2002 and have performed professionally since 1990.

About the lesson

My first meeting with every new student is free of charge so you may determine if you feel I will be a good fit with your child. I teach piano and voice, and I can get your student to do both at the same time!

I have had students of various abilities and levels of motivation; one of my students is now performing gigs of their own as a singer-songwriter.

I have some experience teaching children with learning differences such as dyslexia and mine are processing issues as well as some physical disabilities.

Ask to hear some samples of their students. What better way to gauge the level of instruction?

I was asked by my singer-songwriter student to arrange and perform a song in a recording studio with her. It was wonderful to expose her young singer to the music of the Great American Songbook. Not many 17-year-olds would ask to sing an old Sinatra classic.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What varieties of music does the student find most engaging?

What songs would a student most like to learn to play and / or sing?

What experience and education do they have with music?

Describe any learning differences?

what do you like about the concerts you have attended?

what did you enjoy about concerts or recitals you performed in?

what do you dislike about concerts or recitals you performed in?
