About Diana

I always make sure my student's have a lot of fun while learning how to play piano. Music is meant to be joyful, expressive and exciting. I meet my students where they are and create a safe and happy space to explore music and their talents.

I have a strong classical background and am able to teach anything from Beethoven to Broadway to top 40. I ensure my students know how to read, how to easily interpret and approach any piece of music and form a strong appreciation for the beauty and art of the piano.

I focus on building finger strength, flexibility and agility, varying degrees of music theory, chord progressions, scales and the correct way to practice and learn a new song or piece. I am enthusiatic and help the student's to discover and experiment with musical styles and the type of music they most enjoy playing-from composers to pop stars.

I am patient and kind.

Everything! I enjoy bringing the gift and magic of music to as many people as possible. To let them see what they're capable of and to watch their joy as they progress, and really develop a relationship with music and with their instrument.

Teaching piano is fun and rewarding, and I am so grateful I am able to call it my job.

I have been playing piano for 20 years and teaching students of all ages and abilities for 5 years-as well as in high school. I have an innate ability to understand and play the piano, and have taken lessons with advanced and prolific teachers throughout the years to further my abilities both for myself and my students.

I played Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall at 15 and have been working with classical music from the very beginning, mastering Moonlight Sonata and The Pathetique at 14, as well as Mozart, Bach and Chopin. I can play pop, showtunes and modern compositions as well as teach them.

About the lesson

I take my time and first introduce them to the actual keyboard-beginning with the white keys. I start at Middle C and stay within that octave. I will show them the pattern of the keyboard and incoporate games to help them familiarize themselves.

I will also use the 5 note C major scale and have them repeat the notes as they play.

I often repeat the same musical terms over and over and give them little quizzes during lessons. I teach them about note duration and how to recognize how long a note lasts, as well as give them an understanding of the Grand Staff and 2 ways to read music.

I let the curriculum books help me and help them, and believe mostly it is through experience and practice they will hone their skills and understanding of the basics. I teach songs by the second lesson-and always try to incorporate familiar music that will help the student feel more comfortable and excited about playing.

I use clapping and games to help further understanding of rhythm.

Diana is not just an EXCEPTIONAL musician.... she translates her talents, paired with a critical ear, (as she utilizes a VARIETY of techniques) to bring out the musician & artist in her students. She educated, guided, and nurtured my 14 yr old son (now 16 yrs old) from Beginner to Pianist ...utilizing her intuitive & creative teaching style. We feel so blessed & lucky to have found Diana! She is a lovely, respectful, kind, young woman.
