About Sarah

I'm a piano teacher on Wilmington Island. I have 8 years of experience teaching children ages 5+ and adults. I have taught beginning to intermediate piano. I individualize lessons to suit your needs. For kids I also incorporate music theory games to reinforce concepts.

I love spreading the joy of music to others. Teaching someone to play piano gives them something that will stick with them. I've had students call me their favorite teacher and it warms my heart

I started teaching when I took a piano pedagogy class at VSU. I was hired at a private school to teach private piano lessons in the afternoon and have loved it ever since

I have a BA in Music and minor in psychology from Valdosta State University

About the lesson

First I ask if they have had lessons before and what they know about the piano. Then we start from what they know and introduce a few beginning elements (if they have not had lessons before). About halfway through the first lesson we will start working in a method book. If it is a transfer student then I try to keep them in whichever book they were already using. I also try to figure out if there's a reason they left their last teacher and make sure my teaching style is suited to their needs

I've started kids as young as 4 and as old as 65. I've taken beginners who know nothing, transfer students from other teachers, and retired people who had lessons as children. I've had experience with very well behaved children and children with ADHD and other learning disabilities.

I usually start beginners and work up to intermediate so I would say just make sure you have the ability to commit a little bit of time each day for practicing. Also, it is important to sit in on lessons and make sure you and your child are comfortable with the teacher and so you both understand what your child should be learning and practicing.

Having moved back to Savannah during the pandemic, a few of my students from Minnesota still take lessons from me via FaceTime. It makes me so happy that they have continued with me

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure you have time to practice! Piano lessons are a commitment
