About Katie

I found passion and career in an AP Government class in high school, and decided to pursue it as a career. My goal is to instill that same passion in my students, and to help them understand the processes which allow the US Government to function. I earned a B.A. from George Mason University in Government and International Politics with a concentration in American Politics, I have worked for both the State Department and the House of Representatives, and am currently pursuing a Master's in Security Studies, with a concentration in International Security, at Georgetown University.

I began tutoring informally in high school, and continued through college.

I have a B.A. in Government and International Politics from George Mason University and am in my last semester of the Master in Security Studies at Georgetown University. I have worked with a number of students of all ages over the last three years in reading, math, biology, and algebra.

About the lesson

I like to start out by talking to students about their learning style, and asking them about what they feel they need to work on the most. I also let the student know that the power is in their hands, and that tutoring sessions will be what they make of them. I find that students become more invested and reatin information better when they feel that they are in charge of their learning. If students are unable to identify their weak spots, I issue a benchmark quiz during the second session to evaluate their needs.

I have worked with children as young as 5, and adults pursuing adult education. I have worked primarily with high school and college aged students.

Definitely work to find a techer that will meet you where you are and will complement yoour learning style.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about you learn best, and what will be most helpful to you. Evaluate your weak spots, and think about what you would like to improve on most. Set a big goal for yourself, and then work it back by setting smaller goals that you can use as a marker.
