About Deborah

I'm a Reading Instruction Specialist, helping students at any age to achieve reading success. Starting in 2004 I have helped many struggling readers to gain proficiency, no matter the reason for their diffilculty. I work with students from K- college. ESL students also benefit from our approach.

It is so fullfilling and gives me joy to see students gain confidence as their decoding skills and reading fluency increase.

I use the Academic Associates Reading Course. This method is effective and can help students make progress in as little as 30 hours.

I started teaching in a church setting as a pastor. I noticed that many students I worked with lacked confidence in their reading abilities. This concerned me because reading is such an essential skill in today's world. Yet many individuals of all ages are not able to read as well as they should.

I am a Reading Instruction Specialist through Academic Associates. I also have Masters Degree.

About the lesson

Starting out, I try to get acquainted with them so that they are comfortable. We then do an exercise to see where they are in their reading.

I've worked with students from elementary grades through college and beyond. Some have been home-schooled. One student had never been to school in her native country. She was a forty year-old mother of six who desired to get a GED. Some were just lagging behind a bit in school and needing to catch up; others had special needs or specific reading disability such as ADHD or Dyslexia.

Your success requires your full participation with the teacher. A teacher is there as a guide, but you must be willing to do your part as a student. It is important to practice your reading daily when you are away from class if you want to see improvement.
