About Raina
Hi, I'm Raina! I am a sophomore at New York University studying Economics and Data Science. I have always had a background in tutoring, as my mother runs a 300-student tutoring centre where she teaches essay writing, creative writing herself, and preps her students with necessary skills for the SAT. I have been her teaching assistant since I was a freshman in high school, teaching students from ages 8-18. While I helped her with reading and writing, I also have a strong inclination towards math and thus started study groups amongst her students so that they could have a well-rounded sense of all sections of the SAT. I also have 5 years of teaching experience at Savera Special School, where I taught Math and English to students with Down Syndrome and those on the Autism spectrum, so I have an intuition when it comes to gauging students comfort level with certain topics, and this helps me keep my feedback and revision more specialized.
I myself took the SAT twice, along with about 30 full-length practice tests, and received a 1590 without superscoring. In terms of high school grades, I also have received the INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education from the Government of India for scoring among the top 1% of STEM students in the whole country. I love writing and giving feedback, helping to improve essays. I currently have 2 of my essays nominated by my professors up for consideration to be published in NYU's Mercer Street Journal,. the Expository Writing Program's journal of outstanding first-year student writing.
I love interacting with peers in a way that leads to learning for all members involved, and prefer to a collaborative style over a lecture style as I feel it keeps everyone more engaged and able to retain information. I am very open to constructive criticism and would love to hear any notes from students or parents. I would also love to help with particular problem areas, and find unique solutions to any problems a learner is facing. I am easy to reach out to and will always provide fast replies. I would like to have a meeting before new sessions in order to write down learning objectives and finding a learning style that the student would appreciate.
I would suggest learning from someone around your age like me, as the experience of the SAT and other high school work is still very relevant and fresh in my mind.

I gained a lot of necessary insight into the Essay Writing and SAT Prep process. The unique model of teaching got me ready for questions across a range of difficulties and I look forward to learning more.
She was very receptive and helped me to figure out and then work on my problem areas. She did explain that she might take a few hours to reply because she may be in a different time zone, but she is always prompt and on time for lessons. Overall, very sweet and a great teacher, highly recommend! Definitely improved my scores by a huge margin.
