About Leslie

I share the magnificent underwater world by teaching safe snorkeinhg and scuba diving procedures.

With 30 years of experience; teaching and leading group trips to the Caribbean and other oceans, I know all the pain points new divers fear. We dispel those in many ways.

I have also taught people with lifelong fears of water and deep seated phobia's. Most of them are now avid divers.

My goal is to make everyone a safe and confident certified diver so they may enjoy many years of exloring the beauty of the underwater world.

It is far more mesmerizing than most imagine. The more you dive the more you are amazed.

It's a continual learning experience, and you'll meet people from all over the world that share the same love and passion for this incredible sport!

After diving in Cozumel Mexico and then the Cayman Islands, I wanted the share this beautiful experience with others. But I also wanted to add to my cirriculum and put more empasis on the things that will help my divers be more comfortable from the start, and help them better, more confident divers as soon as possible.

The courses I took to become a PADI Scuba Instructor:

The PADI Open Water Diver - mine was 6 weeks long and then 2 full days of diving in Table Rock Lake for certicitation.

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver - 2 full days of learning & diving: Natural Navigation, Compass Navigation, Night Diving, Deep Diving (60- 100'), Search & Recovery Dive

PADI Specialty Courses to develop skills under experienced instructor supervision.

PADI Rescue Diver - Skills to help prevent and respond to diving emergencies.

PADI Divemaster Course - learning how to manage groups of certified divers, assist with divers in training, develop your dive skills to demonstration quality. Practice rescue skills, learn more about dive theory–equipment, general diving skills & the environment, physics, physiology and the recreational dive planner.

Assistant Instructor- assisting the instrucor with anything possilbe and helping students learn minor skills.

PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). My course was 10 days longs. Learn how to teach people, how to teach in the classroom, in the pool and at open water. Hone diving skills to top-notch demonstration quality. Practice rescue skills, with emphasis on not just being effective, but also demonstrating how to perform a rescue. Learn the PADI System of Education. This course is a minimum of 5-8 days long, requiring lots of preparation for this course.

PADI Instructor Examination (IE). This program is conducted by PADI staff over two days where the examiner evaluated my ability to teach my knowledge and skills.

About the lesson

You may complete both the course and certification in four days.

Then, you make four open water dives over two days to practice the skills you learned in the pool.

The 1st day we begin in 3-4' of water. You learn all the basic skills on the first day in the shallow end. I tell my students, "If at any time you are truly afraid, just stand up!"

Then we will go to an open body of water, such as a lake, a quarry, or an ocean; where we will practice the skills you learned in the pool.

Once you've proved mastery of each skill and you are comfortabledoing them; you will earn your scuba certification; which is good for a lifetime!

Every type, age, size. Business owners, corporate groups, families and children.

Every comfort level, from super comfy in water to those who litterally didn't like water on their face- even in the shower!

Be very careful. A teacher can make your experience fun and pleasant.

I know instructors that only want to work with advanced divers. Thy have zero patience for new divers. Which makes no sense to me.

I've also seen instructors that are not that concerned about each staudents exerience. Which again, makes no sense at all.

I've seen instructors that do not help their students underwater enough. So if you're already a bit afriad (which most people are in the beginning) that only makes it worse.

So yes, be very careful. Plus, make sure they have had lots of ocean experence. And many years of teaching experience. Look at reviews.

If you're going for a large dive shop- you may not know who your instructor will be until class begins, or you may have multiple insntructors.

When people tell me they tried a diving course and wil never go diving- 9 times out of 10, I beleive it's all on the instructor. They could have helped them have a fabulous experience. If they'd only put in the extra effort.

Since I've taught for so long, there are many different kinds of experiences.

I suppose the ones I'm most happy about; is when I can help someone from being completelty fearful of water to excited for their next scuba excursion. That totally chages thier world. That makes me very happy!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask about teaching experience. Some instrucors have very little.

Ask about their ocean experience? Some teachers have very few ovean dives.

Tell your instructor (they should ask) about your comfort level.

Have you snorkeled in the ocean?

Are you nervous in the deep water or the ocean?

It's okay if you are, and a good instructor will know in an instant who they need to watch & help more than others by seeing them in the water.

But the more you can discuss in advance the more your instructor will know how to help.

Everyone can dive. It's not difficult. Yes, there is a lot to learn, but once we learn it, we are safe. And yes, it's worth it. You'll have the rest of your life to enjoy this awesome sport!

Dive with old friends, new dive buddies, and your family.

It will make all your travels more enjoyable, even if you only go on one dive it adds so much dimension to your experience!

Watching the marine life and seeing the vibrant colors is breath-taking. Many times I pinch myself and wonder, how am I so lucky to be under here to witness this!
