About Jeannette

I am a tri-lingual classically trained vocalist (English, Mandarin, and Cantonese) with experience singing multiple genres: classical, pop, Broadway. I work with students with varied vocal experience and across age groups. I like to convey my technique in relatable ways to my students for them to achieve a complete and liberated sound.

I enjoy helping my students achieve breakthroughs in their singing - whether it be a characterization, a particularly difficult phrase or a high note. Seeing their amazement at the sound that comes from their throat is a joy to me.

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music and English from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (First Class Honors). Apart from my music degree, I also actively took drama classes to help strengthen my on-stage communication.

During my undergraduate years, I started teaching one of Preparatory Choir courses at the Yip's Children Choral & Performing Arts Center, a reputable performing arts center for children, and was also invited to perform lead roles in their Musical Theater shows.

After graduating, I worked as a voice teacher at the International Christian Quality Music Secondary and Primary School, the first music school in Hong Kong.

I currently also teach at the Maestro Musicians Academy, Lexington.

About the lesson

I will first discuss with the student their aims and goals - what they hope to get out of singing lessons. I hope to tailor a course more focused to their needs depending on their age, experience, and interest.

I will then introduce singing exercises and repertoire that I find useful to their vocal development, incorporating any knowledge they might have acquired from their previous teacher. I am also open to new selections based on what the student would like to learn.
