About Jessica

I believe in performance based music lessons. Students progress easier while having fun, playing and singing the songs they like and working toward a performance goal. Singers are often encouraged to learn the basics of an instrument or songwriting. Not every student will want to be in the spotlight, so each student's lesson plan is customized for their individual goals. For those eager to get in front of a crowd, I provide many performance opportunities throughout the year including Spotlight showcases at local Denver venues, open mic nights, auditions and festivals.

The best part about my job is watching a young artist grow and learn. There is nothing better than watching a student who has never performed on stage before step out into the spotlight and deliver an amazing performance.

I began training to be a vocal coach at my own music academy where I had trained since being a teen vocalist. After starting with kids group classes I developed a passion for working with individuals of all ages and helping music students to progress into stage performance and find their full potential in the arts. I then started managing a music school in Denver and soon after started my own performance academy Spotlight Studios.

I have worked as a lead singer for many bands and projects, I studied vocal performance at the Academy of the Arts in Denver, I have managed two music schools in the Denver area over the last 10 years and have produced over 30 performance showcases for our vocal students to perform in.

About the lesson

I always offer my first lesson FREE to see if I would be a good fit as your vocal coach. Most students work at their own pace so I ask students to think of a couple songs they would like to start with. During our first lesson we discuss some of your goals and musical styles. We both have a good idea of how to continue after our first lesson, whether it would be each week or periodically when needed.

I work with a range of students from children 7 years and just starting out, to adults seeking a career in the industry. I help many of my students prepare for auditions like The Voice and American Idol, choir auditions for All-State and advanced choirs, and also local school musicals and festivals. Advanced students often begin songwriting and playing an instrument as we prepare them to record their own music in a studio.

It's always important to feel comfortable with your teacher and to have confidence that they have your best interests at heart. This can be a scary subject to some people as vocal performance is very personal and most people have stage fright. This is why I always offer your first lesson for free so we can meet, discuss your goals and sample different teaching styles.

Our student showcases are always such an amazing experience. We booked The Soiled Dove in Denver for Spotlight Studios in April 2018 with 12 singers and 6 musicians. Each singer got to perform their song with a full band for a huge audience of friends and family. It typically takes 2-3 months to prepare for a show like that. We plan several showcases of different sizes throughout the year.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Good questions to think of: Why do you want to work with a vocal coach? What goals do you have for your voice? Do you have any desire to perform on stage or record music? There are no right or wrong answers, every student is different!

Details

Lessons are priced at $50 per hour. These may be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or upon request. Group rehearsals are scheduled for singers periodically before showcases.
