About Louise

Always excited to meet and talk with new students to find out what they expect to learn from voice lessons. A fun and relaxing environment is so importance, they must feel safe know that its okay to make mistakes that is how you learn.

My service stands out because of my love for teaching and passing on what I and have learned and experienced.

MUSIC... its good for the soul and has been a part of my life since I was very small girl. Musicians, singers, actors and dancers in my family on both sides, for generations past. I love helping students to achieve their dreams to improve their singing to be in control of their voices to gain confidence and become better singers. I have studied voice, music, I'm a professional vocalist, performing for many years and touring.

Through my professional career singing, I was asked to teach. From that I built up a practice and have been teaching ever since 1994.

My first singing lesson was with two other girl friends who wanted to learn how to sing and especially harmony. The three of us took lessons together.

I performed all through school, solo singing, choir, jazz choir, whatever, I was in it!

I studied voice for 6 years formally, and I studied music, voice, and design at the College of Marin.

I studied three of those years with the late Faith Winthrop, who was on the staff at Berkeley College and with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Some of the most enjoyable yearsI had studying with her.

I've had a wonderful singing career, and worked with some of the finest musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I had the pleasure which was definitely a highlight of my career performing with the reknowned Walter Wanderley, a Jazz Organist/Pianist. Tony Bennett met Walter in Brazil and encouraged him to come to the States - that he would be a hit and could have a wonderful career, well he did and he was, infact he became an internationally famous recording artist, recording over 60 albums. I had the wonderful opportunity of singing with Walter for some time, a year or so, while he was in San Francisco. Never forgetting our evening a "Christmas Latin Show" at the Gianinni Auditorium in San Francisco, with Walter Wanderley, Pete Escovedo, Mike Clark, Paul Jackson, Willie Cologne and Louise, myself, it was an unforgettable evening.

Today, I have the privilege of working with my son Scott Barnhill, one of the best saxophonist in California. Scott teaches privately and performs throughout the Bay Area. We have performed together in Brazil, Hawaii, and the West Coast.

About the lesson

I usually have a consultation with the Student to learn about their goals and experiences.

I always let them know that no matter what style you want to sing how important it is to get the basics down, working on scales, technic breathe control. Breathe control supports your voice corrects pitch, your intonation takes the pressure off your vocal cords singing longer without losing your voice or developing throat problems. The student will expand their range and through praticing scales and exercises, developing the voice and learns to transition across their bridges ("passagio"), singing from the chest voice to the head voice. smoothly never straining with ease. We will work on specific songs, depending on their choice and needs.

I've worked with professionals and amateurs, all levels and ages. Musical theater, Pop, Jazz, and Rock generes.
