About Amanda

I teach woodwinds, voice, and ear training music lessons. I have experience teaching all wind and percussion instruments and have been a full-time teacher for 5 years with 10 years of private teaching. I have degrees from Ithaca College (B.M. Music Education and Performance, bassoon) and Boston University (M.M. Music Education) and am a New York State certified music teacher.

I've wanted to be a teacher since I was in kindergarten. I attended Ithaca College (BM music education and performance) and Boston University (MM music education) because both schools offered high quality education programs that helped me to be a strong educator.

I have been a teacher since 2015. I have taught music to all grade levels (pre-k through 12) and have tutored in all subject areas with students as young as 6. I have bachelors and masters degrees in education. I have taught private music lessons since 2011.

About the lesson

I learn a student's interests and needs before we begin. It's important to know how students prefer to work and learn, too. I also like to communicate with guardians to some extent before beginning instruction so that all parties are prepared to work towards goals. I like to set up schedules that work for everyone and make plans after each educational session for what to do before and during the next session.

I've worked with beginners, advanced students, autism spectrum students, and adults. I enjoy working with all learners and abilities.

Ask as many questions of potential teachers as you can think of. Get to know the teachers to see if you think your personalities will click. If you find someone you want to work with but your nervous, just be open with the teacher to let them know your wants and needs and what you're apprehensive about so you can all work together to make a plan for success.

I've been tutoring an 8th grade student who had been struggling with all classes, but particularly math. We have created organizational systems for this student to keep track of work completed at home and in tutoring sessions. This student wants so badly to pass 8th grade, but is very down on themself. However; this student recently got a 74 on a math quiz- not only their first passing math grade this year, but in the 70's to boot! This student has worked so hard and it is exciting to see their proud moments and get excited for school.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1) know what you can pay and ask what teachers charge

2) ask if there are specific method books or texts that teachers recommend you to have or work towards

3) if you want to see any reviews or references, see if teachers will share that
