About Sandra

My students see results quickly. They learn how to do the things that make them sound better without strain, and how to let go of haibts that get in the way. We laugh a lot during lessons, which makes them comfortable, and I help them stretch beyond the kinds of songs they know to enjoy other styles. Many of them land solos in local choruses and community theater because of their improved singing technique.

I love hearing the results of my suggestions and seeing how pleased my students are with what they are able to do. And I love getting to know the different folks I work with.

I have taught voice for 30 years, some of the time at Harvard, and now privately out of my home studio. I work with all ages from middle school through adult. I was a professional soprano soloist in the Boston area, and the Cantor and Choir Director at Temple Isaiah for 25 years. I studiend Music Education at Boston University and taught middle school music, developing 4 choruses in the process. I studied music education at Boston University

About the lesson

I meet for an introductory lesson with the student to discuss their needs and singing experience. I explain what I can offer in terms of technique and performance skills, and we begin to work at the very first lesson on breathing, producing a good tone, expanding range, expression...all of the basics. We start with a song the student has brought, or I suggest something that will get the student started.

I give the student suggestions for how to practice during the week, and we make an appoointment for the next meeting.
