About Karen

I believe everyone can sing! If you are a professional seeking to perfect your craft or learn how to unveil your unique vocal sound and/or learn the secrets to vocal stamina or a beginner who has never sung before I can help you achieve your goals in a safe, positive, supportive environment. I work with all styles of singing, ages 13 and older, and teach with practical real-world information.

I have a tremendous passion for singing!

I have been performing for almost 50 years;I hold a degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from the CU Boulder College of music and I have also studied and performed in NYC and in Germany & Austria;

I have been helping people learn to sing well with joy and ease for over 25 years and I'd love to help you!

I have been a teacher in one form or other my entire life, but I started teaching voice in 1990 and have been teaching full-time since 2000

I have a degree in Vocal Performance and pedagogy, as well as 35 years of study in the USA and Europe. In addition to singing I have a lot of performing experience and have studied acting, stagecraft, dance and Alexander Technique among others...

About the lesson

I find out a bit about each new singer and what their goals are, then either have them sing for me first, if they are a professional or review some fundamentals to see which area (s) the student needs to focus on to improve to get to the next level from where they are as compared to where they want to go... Learning to sing is a journey and I am your guide, but each voice is unique, so each journey must be as well. I also teach online via Skype for students who live out of the area.

My studio is divided into a broad community of singers... About a third are Professional/Serious Classical/Opera singers, another third are Professional/Serious singers of various genres including Jazz, Blues, Indie Rock, Singer Songwriters and even some Country Western and the rest are beginners ages 13+ who want to learn to sing and/or freely express with their voice.

The relationship between a student and voice teacher is a very personal one and needs to be the "Right Fit" so do some research online and review location, pricing, experience, philosophy, personality to narrow down your search, then try 1-3 lessons with one or more teachers to see if it feels right. If it's a good fit, the student should leave each lesson feeling positive about themselves and working with a teacher should feel that singing is getting easier, vocal range is expanding and the voice is improving towards the students goals; If the experience is "other" I suggest a new teacher be found.
