About David

During the past 28 years, I have been fortunate to acquire a solid background in vocal technique thanks to the many teachers I have worked with and my own passion to continuously learn more about this art.

Many come to me without having been shown how to use their bodies as 'support' for their sound. Without learning this step, singing becomes hopelessly frustrating. Most teachers are unaware of how to coordinate the various parts of the vocal instrument to obtain freedom in singing. Once my students feel this coordination, progress begins rapidly. I am successful in my teaching because I get resuts.

I have earned two Vocal Performance Degrees in Music. My Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree is from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase in New York. Master of Music degree is from DePaul University in Chicago. I have performed all types of singing styles from Pop, Rock to Country, Musical Theater to Classical and some Opera as well.

Seeing dedicated students understand and apply the vocal technique to their singing is so rewarding! Many times students are quite frustrated when they first come for help. After they feel the difference applying the fundamentals of the technique, they are so relieved and excited to apply this new way of singing immediately!

I have two Vocal Performance degrees from major US Conservatories of Music.

Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Vocal Performance from The Conservatory of Music at Purchase, Purchase, NY

Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from DePaul Unviersity in Chicago, IL.

I have performed on stage professionally in musicals, operas, concerts, recitals, and ensembles. I have taught for the past 28 years.

About the lesson

Learning as much as is possible about my new student is very important to how I will introduce topics to be learned.

Normally, I begin explaining posture, breathing and how to use the breath as a first goal. Many problems are solved because of a previous lack of knowledge in these areas.

Gaining control of the breath will be a first priority also. I am very patient with student's efforts and not judging one's sound at the beginning is huge. Obtaining the correct coordination in your body precedes sounding the way you want.

Students interested in all types of styles of singing from Pop, Rock, Country, Jazz, Gospel, Classical, Opera, Musical Theater to anything else you can name. The human voice basically works the same technically for all these various styles of singing.

Meet with the teacher to see if you are a good fit. See if what you are being asked to do feels better than the way you were singing before...results come quickly if the teacher's technique is sound, many times it is not. All voice teachers have not sung professionally or have studied sufficiently to be considered qualified to teach.

I have the qualifications and the experience singing to help anyone sincerely wishing to improve.

Basically let me know what your physical sensations are currently when you sing. This will offer clear signs as to what your issues are.

The process unfolds very naturally under the guidance of an experienced teacher.

David has a wonderful grasp of the fundamentals, and is able to take concepts and mechanics of producing sound, which are so hard to describe in words, and communicate them effectively. I had no idea what impact small changes in how I stood or shaped my mouth and jaw would have on the sound I could produce, and control.

David is incredibly knowledgeable, patient and encouraging. He is passionate about teaching the mechanics of voice. It had been many years since I sang with a choir and my voice was in need much rehabilitation. Pleased to say, they voiced the choir last night and with proper breath support, I achieved a three octave range. Thank you, David!
