About Sheila

Have you ever had one of those days when you were singing, acting, dancing, or involved in an athletic endeavor, and for one brief moment, you experienced a higher level than ever before? This is the "Eureka!" moment we all long for as artists. Now our bodies have shown us a higher path, and I have developed a method to re-create his experience vocally. It's what I call "hollowing out the pipe", so that we can have a "no walls-no ceiling" feeling....like flying with our voices!

After much performing, one of my voice teachers told me that there was an opening for a voice teacher at Miami Dade College. I found that I was a natural teacher and loved the one-on-one experience.

Playing piano since the age of 6...singing since the age of 12...Bachelor's Degree in Math and Music...previously College Voice Teacher (University of Miami and Miami Dade College)...now private studio. Past and Present Professional Affiliations: National Association of Teachers of Singing, Actors' Equity Association, American Guild of Variety Artists, Theatre League of South Florida

About the lesson

Stress release, deep yoga-breathing, vowel-resonator scales...followed by workouts on songs, involving resonating, saying the words, vowelizing the melody, and finally singing the song....character development, if it's a theatre song. Body language, as well as facial involvement....tapping into the sub-text of the character, as welll as the context of the song.

Students interested in musical theatre, classical, jazz, pop, sacred

Make sure to look around until you find someone whose advice you can trust, and with whom you have a very good rapport. I feel there must be a real connection in a one-on-one class for significant growth to take place.

I do an annual concert with several colleagues at a church in Coral Gables (whose acoustics are right out of heaven).....and we always end with "The Prayer". At this past June's concert, we were so in sync, that I felt like I was lifting up off the stage...very transcendent experience...

"How can you help me with a process that would sustain me, should I be cast in a musical with a long run? How can I preserve vocal health, even with nightly performances?"

"Do you emphasize vocal freedom, rather than trying to powerhouse my voice?"
