About Janice

I have been teaching voice for 38 years and I have had many successful singers who have made careers: in opera ( local, nationally & internationally) musical theatre ( Tony awards, Broadway, off Broadway and touring companies, jazz singers who sing at local clubs and At Feinsteins in NY , pop singers who have sung for Disney, Grammy nominated etc

my technique has proved to give singers the foundation needed for a long career. I have cantors, priests, and pros in above mentioned areas who have been working with me for 20 years and I'm now teaching second generation singers!

I have a masters degree from Northwestern University

i had a career singing opera as a mezzo soprano and sang in Germany,Switzerland, Italy,Spain andUSA I just recently sang (march 5 2017) a solo concert with the chicago metropolitan symphony.

i have been teaching in summer opera programs in Italy ( Tuscia Operafestival, Operanow, Rome festival)

i have taught on faculties of Roosevelt university, Santa Fe university of Art & Design

i continue to teach in chicago & Santa Fe

As an opera singer who toured i understand the need for great technique and I love teaching! I am so proud to be part of all these singers careers and I encourage them to work hard and I produce 3-5 platforms a year to help promote and. Give them that goal of a public performance in the style of music they are working on

I was a graduate assistant at Northwestern and started very young. I sang very easily and was always asked how I did it so I worked and developed a wonderful technique which developed over the years and the results have been fabulous.

I was also a musical director of several theatre companies after i graduated Northwestern and met many singers who needed technique and they began to study privately when the shows ended.

I have a masters degree from Northwestern University and have sung all over the world in Opera and Oratorio

I have held several faculty positions and started CSPS almost 30 years ago to help train highly motivated singers and provide platforms for them to perform develop as a complete artist.

I have taught lessons in Italy, Switzerland, Germany and done master classes at Santa Fe University of Art and Design, Roosevelt University, International Festivals etc.

Many of my students have gone on to win Grammy nominations, Tony awards, Jeff awards, win singing competitions, sing in Opera companies, Musical theatre companies, jazz clubs, all over the world.

I also have a young voice teacher i mentor to take on young, beginners.

About the lesson

Usually a new student would have a "first techique" lesson to find out exactly where that student's knowledge of correct singing are. We will work on breath support, range extention and resonance.

After the singer has a good knowledge of how their particular voice works without tension and with excellent support we will continue with repertoire we choose that would be appropriate for their age, goals and ability.

I have singers in opera, Oratorio, Pop, Jazz, R&B and all types of Cantors, ethnic singers as I speak 6 languages.
I love the versatility and have been successful for over 35 yrs. I am one of the only voice teachers in the country who can say they have made their entire living singing and teaching as I have dedicated my life to this and love helping singers fulfill their dreams. I have had Tony award winners, Grammy nominated, Disney singers, Opera singers local, regional and international, jazz singers that perform here and in NY, R&B singers with national careers. I am very fortunate to be part of their lives.

Make sure your voice teacher knows technique and can communicate in a way that you can understand Can they sing well? I do not believe that a singer who sings poorly can be a good teacher. I believe you are an example and if that example is not worthy do not study with that person. Look for their background, have they toured? have they sung in other countries? have they had successful students? Do they teach as their profession or do they work another job? Do they showcase their students in any platforms? Any studio can have one or two good singers that doesn't mean the teacher is good.

A studio of excellent singers is what to look for. Ask to sit in and watch a lesson or go to a performance of that teachers students. This is your voice! I have fixed so many vocal problems over the years from singers that just went to any voice teacher..... You get what you pay for! Pay for experience, and talent and the teachers ability.

We just had our Annual Opera Gala and my singers were absolutely wonderful. The level was so high that several are now singing in professional companies in New York and elsewhere.

Think about what your goals are. Try a few teachers and see what you think. Its YOUR voice. Make sure you look at track record and experience in teaching as well as the success of their students. Let your teacher know if you have any special needs so we can help you.

Details

Lessons with Janice Pantazelos are $125 per hour. Half hours are $65. ( if she agrees to them)

beginner lessons with teen teacher are $65 per hour. paid monthly

Skype lessons are $55 for half hour, $75 for 45 min and $95 for an hour. This includes any cc fees. ( I take credit cards, venmo, chase pay, paypall, pop money etc) I skype all over the world as many of my singers are touring and we can stay on track!

Skype is only available once a certain number of private live lessons have been taken. Depends on the singer at the descretion of Janice Pantazelos

There is also another teacher at CSPS who mainly takes beginners and teens. She has her degree and has been a longtime student of Janice Pantazelos and trained by her. Lessons with her are $65 per hour. or $35 per half hour.

The first lesson is usually a consultation and lesson done by Ms. Pantazelos and she will decide if you continue with her or Melanie.
