About Evelyn

I am passionate about students learning music correctly and comprehensively. There are many parts to learning a piece of music not just learning notes to play or sing. I look to make my students artists...no matter how small or large. Everyone can be an artist in their own way. I have high standards but I'm also funny and love to have fun during the lesson. I have both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music and have been teaching 35 years. I have also performed extensively both in Chicago, my hometown, and in Boston, as I now live in MA. I love it! Everything! I love making music and watching my students learn to sing or play and copmprehend. And especially when they do well and are happy about it!

It pulled me into it. I got this overwhelming desire to teach and it almost scared me! I talked it over with my current voice teacher at the time and he thought it was a great idea. So here I am!

Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music. 35 years of teaching. Many years performing. Studied voice, piano, organ and choir directing. I am a member of NATS, MTNA, and the National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians.

About the lesson

I talk to them about either voice if a voice student, explain how singing works basically, or walk around the piano with a piano student and explore it so the student isn't afraid of "the machine" and actually knows how it operates. We start simple. Make it non-threatening and hopefully non-stressful.

Voice students...anywhere from 10 years old to adults. Piano students...anywhere from 5 years old to adults.

Look for someone who is practical and not performing for your benefit. Performance belongs on stage. Lessons are tedious and you need a practical teacher who gets it and can apply their lesson approach to each individual. Music teaching is not a one-size fits all. It's very individual. Sense of humor too!

Adjudicating online for a recent NATS contest. I enjoy doing that and local chapters look for that for preliminary auditions.
