About Cindy

With over 30 years experience teaching Spanish at all levels, I'm here to meet your needs for everything from tutoring to help you improve your performance in a Spanish class in school to practicing conversation or preparing for a trip. I have been rated Superior on the OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) in Spanish, which is a tool by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages to access a person's proficiency level in a language. I have a flexible schedule and I'm willing to work with a small group of students. (an adjusted pay rate applies)

It is very satisfying to me to share my love of Spanish with those who wish to learn to understand speak, read, and write this beautiful language. If you are interested in studying another language, you show that you are open to learning another way of seeing and experiencing the world.

I'm also enthusiastic about the many cultures represented in the Spanish-speaking world and would like to share that with you. I have traveled to nearly all of the Spanish-speaking countries and I have lived in Argentina, Ecuador and Mexico. Many years ago, when I was a Spanish major in college, I did my student teaching in Panama.

After graduating with a degree in Spanish, I continued my education and earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, which eventually led to my career in teaching Spanish at a college. My professional accomplishments include many presentations at foreign language conferences and the publication of two Spanish textbooks - one at the college intermediate level and another for advanced intermediate conversation classes.

About the lesson

I typically have not worked one-on-one with students except with those who were in my classes and needed extra help. If you want to learn Spanish from the beginning level, I will approach my teaching in a similar way as I did my regular classes, but I will tailor the lessons to your weekly needs. I will begin with the pronunciation of Spanish, then move on to some basic communicational activities. From there I will adapt the lessons to what you want to learn. For example, do you want to communicate your basic needs in a travel situation, do you want to improve your grade in a Spanish class, or do you wish to maintain your conversational skills? You tell me what you want to learn and I will try to accommodate you.
