About Maya
My 4 years of teaching experience combined with my lifelong swimming background gives me the confidence to offer quality private, semi-private, and group lessons for anyone -- with any level of learning, physical, or mental abilities -- ranging from 6 weeks old to 80+ years old. I currently hold CPR/AED/First Aid and Water Safety Instructor certifications.

I find a lot of fulfillment helping my students feel confident in their ability to be around and in water safely. I believe that learning how to swim develops resilience in all areas of one's development, which is why I am so passionate about teaching quality swim lessons!
I started teaching as a part-time job to save money and pay for college. I decided to pursue teaching because of my lifelong passion for swimming and my 15+ years swim team experience. I have worked at several private swim schools and now use my own knowledge and expertise to help my students succeed.
I have current CPR/AED/First Aid and Water Safety Instructor certificates. I have had both of these trainings multiple times and I feel confident in my ability to keep people safe in and around water. My extensive experience lifeguarding, teaching, and training to become a swim instructor and lifeguard, qualifies me to offer exemplary swim lessons.

It is my priority to build trust between my students (and their parents for minors). I work hard to cultivate comfortable, professional relationships so that my students can challenge themselves in a safe environment. During my initial lesson, I run my students through basic swim skills -- water safety practices, class rules, breath holding, eyes in water, floats, kicks -- to assess their skill levels and individual learning needs. From there, I can develop individual lesson plans.
I have worked with students across all walks of life and all different levels of physical, emotional, mental, and learning abilities. I am particularly experienced with people who have ADD/ADHD and intense fears of the water. My age range of students: 6 weeks old to 80+ years old.
I would tell a student to find a teacher who they can connect with and relate to -- there's nothing harder than trying to challenge yourself when you don't feel supported by your teacher!
