About Keith

Hello! I am currently enrolled in a Ph.D program at the University of Vermont's college of engineering and mathematical sciences. I plan on being a professor of mathematics one day, so suffice it to say that I have a real passion for teaching math. I have been in love with the subject since I was a little kid, and know what it is like to have to work to truly understand the topic.

My biggest strength is my ability to connect with anybody, and it is my personal philosophy that the largest portion of learning is being able to connect with the teacher. Where a K-12 student may be frustrated with their math teacher, that same student will have a lot less frustration when they are learning with a current student who still recognizes and understands the struggles of learning math.

Where many math tutors fail is coming to every single student with the same approach, using a one-size-fits-all teaching method. I set myself apart by personalizing my teaching to the student. My tutoring is very flexible to accommodate for difficulties in certain topics, while still keeping up the proper pace to excel in tests and other class work. I gained this through years of tutoring my peers in high school and college, finding that we were really able to progress when I was able to connect with the student.

I remember my first day in calculus, feeling the light bulb go off in my head as calculus started to click into place. It was then theat I knew I wanted to spend my career in math. I strive to see that same light go off in a student's head, when they finally make things click in math.

I am currently a PhD student in the University of Vermont's mathematical sciences program, after having received my bachelor's in mathematics from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. I also have two years of tutoring experience.

About the lesson

I like to spend my time making a connection with a new student. I want to be someone they can connect with, so we can make more progress than a student would get in a classroom. When I am working with a new student then, I like to take my time to personalize my tutoring to best fit the needs of the particular student. This is seen most clearly during test prep like SAT sessions, where we can work through a practice exam, so that I can see what exactly the student needs to work on throughout our following sessions.
