About Dominic

I am a Tucson-based trumpeter and am a graduate of the University of Arizona with a B.M. in Trumpet Performance.

I am experienced in teaching young beginners to advanced high school students.

My lessons aim to build a better understanding of music fundamentals and the technicalities of the trumpet. Through the first lesson, I can determine the level the student is at and assign excercises and repertoire that will challenge and help them.

Getting to work with trumpet students is a joy to me! I strive to help my students understand what they need to work on and solve any concerns they might have. Being a positive role model and teaching good habits is my mission to creating well-rounded musicians.

I began my teaching back in high school when my band director asked if I could help teach the new trumpet players in improving their playing. We worked on articulations, tone, breath, and rhythm.

I have earned my B.A. in Trumpet Performance from the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music. My experience at the school has shown me what music should be like at the professional level, paying close attention to details and to play according to my surroundings, which could mean knowing when to play as a section or when it is time to play as a soloist.

I have also worked with a summer program called Tucson Summer Music, a non-profit organization that aims to give free music education to low-income families. The students who attend are typically beginners and are always eager to learn!

About the lesson

It depends on the students level on the instrument and their music knowledge. If they don't have any experience, then we would start out with the music basics and learn what the trumpet is made of and how it works.

With more advanced students, I ask to hear something they have been working on (this could be something they are playing at school). From there on, I will give advice on what could be improved and how to work towards that goal.

I have worked with students at the age of 6 up to high school students.

Having a teacher that you can relate to helps with learning the instrument. Not only have they been where you are, but they can also make the journey fun and exciting!

Details

Since I am currently between permanent studio locations, I am happy to teach from the comfort of the student's home! If the commute extends out of my range of distance, then I may also quote a travel fee in advance of the lesson.

My rates are:

$30/hour

$20/half-hour
