About Christina

The People Dancing Company is an award-winning multi-genre performing arts company. PDC has a dual mission of art-making and education and has been in continuous operation in Michigan since 1985. We provide a variety of dance experiences and services ranging from custom choreographies, workshop and class experiences, and performances (in concert, site-specific, and chamber-style for private events).

The TEACHER Artistic Director Christina Sears, MFA is making private and semi-private lessons available in 2018. With Christina, and through Riverside Arts Center, this website and other studio partners, you can achieve a more flexible, stronger and more energetic body. Christina accepted the 2016 Dance Educator of the Year. This Prestigious Michigan award is coordinated by the Michigan Youth Arts Festival and was conferred by the Michigan Dance Council.

Our Mission is to improve lives and make connections through the art of dance. With a dual mission of art-making and education, we provide quality experiences in dance, somatics and the related performing arts.

I started teaching from a very young age. I love the performing arts and always wanted to share the joy and energy with others, even before I was a trained professional. I began dancing professionally at age 17 and haven't stopped yet!

Later on, I studied the art of teaching extensively at University of Michigan, at Laban Center in England, and at State University New York College of Brockport. I have taught at Wayne State University and Eastern Michigan University, and currently am the Ballet Program Director at the vibrant Jackson School of the Arts in Jackson MI.

I have a Master in Fine Arts with a Focus in Choreography and Performances, and also a Bachelors of Arts from University of Michigan. I am a trained Shin Somatics Practitioner. I am a Professional Dance Artist, Teacher and Choreographer, currently working in the field of Fine and Performing Arts.

I have experience in Hatha Yoga, Land to Water Yoga, Adaptive Dance and Movement, Somatic Movement Therapy and traditional and contemporary dance forms.

About the lesson

We always take a few minutes to set goals. We make a plan for the amount of lessons you have in your budget, and take care of any business (registrations, fees, scheduling, etc.)

I ask you to register and sign a waiver to participate in my private lessons program. We review any important information about your health and any injuries. Before starting a new dance or exercise program, I recommend discussing it with your doctor to make sure dance/yoga are a good fit for you.

All classses include a warm-up, skill building, moving to accomplish goals, creative time or choreography, (for dance) or touching-through-touch time (for Somatics) and cooling down or discussing the lesson.

Private Lessons at our partner locations $75
Private Lessons at your Location $90-$125 depending on distance
Semi-Privates (3 students) $20 per student
Workshops $15 per person
Group Class (Lunch Break Jazz and Tap) at RAC, 5 classes $108. Begins 1/18 and runs for 5 consecutive lessons.
