About Carly
I am a fully qualified and highly experienced Chemistry teacher, teacher trainer, and educational leader with over 14 years’ experience working across secondary education, post-16 provision, higher education, and national awarding organisations. My career has combined classroom teaching, curriculum leadership, examiner work, and teacher development, giving me a broad and detailed understanding of both science education and assessment.
My academic background includes a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, a First-Class MChem degree, and a PGCE in Secondary Chemistry (Distinction). My research background in chemistry has also led to multiple peer-reviewed publications.
I am passionate about making Chemistry accessible, engaging, and achievable for all learners, and about using evidence-informed teaching and assessment expertise to help students build confidence and succeed.
With a PhD in Chemistry, over 14 years of teaching experience, and current roles as an examiner, practical endorsement team leader, and teacher trainer, I bring a wealth of subject knowledge and educational expertise to every lesson. My goal is to help every student achieve their potential and develop the confidence to succeed in Chemistry.

I offer personalised online Chemistry tuition designed to build understanding, confidence, and exam success. Every lesson is tailored to the individual student, focusing on their specific strengths, areas for development, and academic goals. Whether you are aiming for top grades, preparing for exams, or simply finding certain topics challenging, I will adapt my teaching to meet your needs.
My lessons combine clear explanations of key concepts with plenty of opportunities to apply knowledge through worked examples, exam-style questions, and discussion. As an experienced A-Level Chemistry examiner for two English exam boards, I provide valuable insight into how marks are awarded and help students develop the skills needed to tackle questions effectively.
I place a strong emphasis on developing genuine understanding rather than memorisation alone. By identifying and addressing misconceptions, I help students make connections between topics and become more independent, confident learners. Lessons are supportive, engaging, and paced appropriately to ensure students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring challenging ideas.
I have extensive experience supporting a wide range of learners, including GCSE and A-Level students, home-educated learners, high-achieving students aiming for A/A* grades, and those who need additional support to build confidence. I also have significant experience working with students who have SEND, anxiety, or other barriers to learning, and I am committed to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
