About Jacob
As someone with ADHD, I understand how traditional teaching methods can fall short. I used to struggle with topics that others grasped quickly—not because I lacked ability, but because the teaching style didn’t engage me. This experience drives my approach: making learning clear, engaging, and adapted to each student’s unique needs. My approach is to uncover what’s truly captivating in each subject—drawing you in through curiosity and meaningful connections rather than rote memorisation—while equipping you with the tools to unlock new levels of understanding.

As a second-year Philosophy student at Durham University with A-levels in English Literature, Film Studies, and Philosophy (all at grade A and above), I offer tailored tutoring in A-Level and GCSE English Literature and Philosophy, Religion & Ethics (PRE). Over the past two years, I’ve provided tutoring on and off for friends, acquaintances, and family, helping students build confidence, structure essays effectively, and achieve strong results. My teaching style is personalised, hands-on, and conversational. I focus on building a deep understanding of core concepts, refining essay technique, and applying content directly to exam-style questions. Lessons include guided essay planning using clear frameworks, close analysis of texts and arguments, and plenty of opportunity for discussion and clarification. Typical lessons run from 1 to 2.5 hours, depending on the student’s needs. I provide structured resources, regular feedback, and clear action points to help students improve. My sessions are ideal for GCSE and A-Level students (ages 14–18) seeking help with subject content, essay writing, and exam preparation in a supportive but focused setting.
