About Ari
I am an artist and experienced art educator who has taught children, teens, and adults in a wide range of studio art settings. My undergraduate education includes a concentration in Studio Art, with extensive study in drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration, and ceramics. I also hold an MFA in Media Design and an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Adolescent Literacy.
I enjoy helping students discover their own ways into art—whether they are developing foundational skills, exploring a new medium, or building on years of experience. I believe careful observation, experimentation, and making connections are important parts of learning, and I enjoy getting to know each student's interests, strengths, and artistic goals.

Art lessons begin with you—your interests, experience, goals, and the ways you learn best. I use multiple entry points into art concepts so that students can begin with their existing strengths while developing new skills and ways of seeing.
Observation is an important foundation in much of my teaching. Depending on the student and project, we may explore shape, proportion, value, color, space, composition, materials, or visual storytelling through demonstration, discussion, experimentation, and guided practice. I adjust the challenge and techniques to the individual rather than assuming that age alone determines artistic ability.
Lessons can include drawing, painting, printmaking, cartooning, mixed media, book arts, and other 2D and 3D approaches when they are practical for online instruction. Students may explore a new medium, strengthen foundational skills, develop their own project, or make connections between art and other areas that interest them.
My goal is not simply to show students how to reproduce an example. I want them to understand what they are seeing, why a technique works, and how they can use those ideas to develop their own artwork and artistic voice.

Mr. Sutton was my daughter’s art teacher for middle and elementary school. Even now, years later, he still holds a special place in our hearts. He focuses on building connections with students, and even years later, is still a champion of my daughter as she pursues a Fine Arts degree. He provided thoughtful guidance with gentle critique, building her confidence in her artistic abilities. We would recommend Mr. Sutton as an art teacher, tutor, and mentor to anyone!
As a grandparent and Dividend volunteer in Seminole County, FL, I knew Ari Sutton as my grandson’s art and robotics teacher. I was impressed by Mr. Sutton’s talents, knowledge, patience, abilities to motivate students. Students and I felt he truly cared and was a trustworthy person. On a personal level, he is hard-working, goal-driven, capable in many areas of art, design, teaching and an exemplary man.
Mr Sutton is such a talented art teacher. He taught both my daughters at the elementary level years ago, and the skills and technique that they learned from him far exceed the lessons they are receiving in their now high school classes. Highly recommend!
