About Samuel
I always loved music. When I was five, I started piano lessons. I constantly played piano. I started trumpet lessons a few years later and never put that horn down either.
I live and breathe music, and that led me to take endless college courses on the subject and then fifteen years as an educator.
I love teaching folks who share my passion for music, those who simply enjoy it, as well as students whose passions are outside of the music world - but show up for their lessons nonetheless.
I consider an educator teaching music and music alone a missed opportunity.
Studying music helps us learn how to set feasible goals - and to reach them.
It helps connect individuals over the shared love for a singer or band, or composers past or present .
It helps us view each other with empathy.
Plus, it's darned fun.
Come to think of it, I'm going to stop writing here, grab one of my favorite piano fake books, and jam.

I get to know a student - as well as their families. Together, we figure out their lesson goals. I am excellent at listening closely to my students and their interests, which helps me keep them motivated week after week.
Not everyone aims for a career as a solo pianist. In fact, most people don’t!
Studying music, and particularly learning piano, helps us learn how to see attainable goals, and how to hold ourselves accountable as we work towards those goals.
I love when students find the connections between their piano studies and the music they hear each day. When a student walks in my studio, eager to play a song they figured out by ear, I set aside time in that lesson for them to share.
Throughout lessons, I sprinkle in some music theory tidbits because I’m just that nerdy about music.
