My Approach to Tutoring GCSE Biology and Chemistry
Techniques and Teaching Methodology
Past Paper Focus: The core of my tutoring sessions is based on past paper questions. I believe that familiarity with exam-style questions and the marking scheme is crucial for success. Each session includes working through these questions, understanding what the examiners are looking for, and practicing answering them under timed conditions.
Strategic Learning: I teach students how to deconstruct questions to understand what is being asked, identify keywords, and apply the correct scientific principles. We also focus on structuring answers logically and concisely to maximize marks.
Active Learning: My sessions are interactive, encouraging students to think critically and ask questions. This not only helps them understand the material but also builds their confidence.
Customized Lessons: Each student is unique, so I tailor my lessons to their specific needs, strengths, and weaknesses. This personalized approach ensures that we address any gaps in their knowledge and build on their existing understanding.
Conceptual Understanding: While past papers are essential, a deep understanding of fundamental concepts is crucial. I use a variety of teaching aids, such as diagrams, videos, and practical examples, to explain complex topics in a simple and engaging manner.
