About Kai
Folks seeking a solid foundation in acoustic styles often find me gigging around Toronto when I am not teaching. You deserve a mentor who earned a BM Popular Music from Selkirk College and treats 13 years of playing like a perpetual research project. I have helped students refine their sound by leaning into the nuances of indie and folk traditions. My teaching method remains lighthearted and jokes are always included alongside the serious work of technical growth.

Struggling with those awkward strumming patterns is actually how most people begin their musical life. It is honestly just a matter of getting your thumb to behave while the theory clicks into place behind the scenes.
We will connect blues progressions to the broader history of the instrument while working on electric technique and fingerpicking clarity. My sessions draw directly from that Selkirk College training to ensure you understand why the strings move the way they do.
Getting the phrasing right takes time but the process is quite rewarding. You might even find yourself writing something new before the clock runs out on our hour together. Maybe just keep the rhythm steady and see where it goes.
