About Rachel

Hello! My name is Rachel and I have recently graduated with a first-class degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol. I have just started Graduate-Entry Medicine at the University of Manchester. My passion for science led me to pursue a degree that blends biology, chemistry, and a bit of maths. Over the past eight years, I have tutored GCSE and A-level students in maths, biology, physics and chemistry. I’m eager to share my enthusiasm for these subjects, along with effective study strategies to help you succeed. I understand how daunting exams can be, and I’m excited to provide you with tips and techniques to boost your confidence and preparation. I have had extensive experience tutoring students with SEND.

Outside my work and studies, I play a lot of music and was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s music scholarship at university. I was an active member of multiple university orchestras and now love playing chamber music with friends and family.

About the lesson

Everyone learns in a different way; therefore, my tutoring sessions are tailored to each student. However, most lessons tend to follow a similar structure, with a large focus on exam questions.

When a student begins with me, I ask them to provide a list of topics they feel less confident in. I use this to craft personalised lesson plans and a week-by-week schedule. The session often begins by going through one of the topics requested by my student. I use an approach that incorporates a mix of discussions, lectures, and hands-on exercises, whilst encouraging active participation. Having a good exam technique is essential for GCSEs and A-levels. Therefore, the rest of the lesson is often dedicated to answering exam questions.

Rachel has been tutoring my daughter GCSE maths for 2 years. In that time, I've seen my daughter become a lot more confident and her grades have improved a lot. I couldn't recommend Rachel enough!
