About Julia

My name is Julia and I am a 2025 graduate from Trinity College Dublin. I received a first class honours in my degree, studying biomedical science with a specialisation in Human Physiology. My current goal is to pursue a PhD.

I am also a 2023 Laidlaw scholar. This scholarship allowed me to gain experience in research, working with charities and leading a team. I have received training on team building, networking, time management, communication and leadership.

I am very passionate about biology and biological research but with an emphasis on animal free testing and lab work. I have researched diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Multiple sclerosis (MS).

Apart from academics, I love music, dance, cooking and going to the gym. Another goal I have for this year is to improve my work life balance, setting aside time for my friends, family and hobbies.

About the lesson

Classes are 100% interactive. Students are asked to revise a given topic before the lesson in order to ensure the whole class can be used for practising exam questions and going over sections the student has questions and doubts in.

Growing up, my favourite subjects in school were biology and chemistry but one of my biggest challenges was trying to find an effective study technique. I spent many hours sitting in front of a textbook re-reading the chapters but not actually taking in any of the information. It wasn't until my second year of university where I discovered how I study effectively and my goal as a tutor is to guide my students in finding a study technique for that works for THEM. Not only does this greatly help for the Leaving Certificate, but also for exams, presentations, interviews etc. they they may face throughout their lives.

As a physiology graduate that is very interested in neuroscience, I am constantly keeping up to date with research-backed study techniques which I introduce to my students. These methods include active recall using flashcards or whiteboards, summarisation using mind maps, and practice testing using exam questions (to name a few). As I mentioned before, every student learns differently and I plan to provide my students with the space and the time to learn and study with a method that they find enjoyable and effective. My goal is to prioritise understanding over cramming and making learning as fun as possible!

I have a strict limit on the number of students I accept at a time, to ensure each student receives enough time, energy and support. Should they be interested I would be more than happy to provide them with applied lessons in biology to give them a flavour of what university level biology is like.
