About Jackie

I am a first-class graduate in Law (LLB Hons), with experience as a tutor for KS3 students with dyslexia and autism, specifically in English Literature. However, my strong academic record highlights I am capable of teaching at all subjects at KS4 and below. I have also completed work experience in the local primary school, Warren Primary. These experiences and my extracurricular activities as a mentor for those younger students wishing to enter Debating Competitions at University Level highlight my dedication to helping others to learn.
I believe with the correct positive approach and support each student can reach their individual goals and learning can be made fun and easy. Educating children can be a stressful process for both parent and student and as a tutor, my aim is to relieve such stress and fear, in a confident and reassuring manner for all those involved.

About the lesson

My teaching method individualistic to the student at hand. As each child will respond differently. I create my lesson plans according to which exercises work well for them as a specific learner. For example for some children, it is more productive to have regular breaks to keep them focused when applying their knowledge, however, others learn more effectively when concentrating for longer periods of time. This is one of the many factors I consider when planning my tutor session, others include what type of exercises stimulate the child's memory i.e mind maps or reading information and re-writing in their own words.

Above my teaching methods consist of two vital notions: patience and precision. As in, it is only with a patient and persistent approach to teaching that I believe the tutoring will be successful. Secondly, I concentrate heavily on explaining the subject areas in as much detail as possible. This means every area of the task at hand will be covered, double-checked and tested. This is an ideal method to ensure the child understands to the fullest extent the work at hand and has zero doubts. It is only with this precision and specificity that the child will be able to confidently approach the subject area later on during the exam or at school. To me, the fundamental priority is always to have a child who can confidently approach the subject area with the correct knowledge after a tutoring session.

Lastly, in terms of communication with parents, I find it useful to continuously update the parent/guardian after each and every session detailing what the child has improved on, what areas need more work and ultimately specify which key exercises can be done to further improve and strengthen the child's knowledge.
