Hello! I’m Tonya, a passionate English and History educator with over 10 years of teaching experience in both traditional and homeschool settings. I have worked with middle and high school students of all learning abilities, tailoring my lessons to fit their unique needs and strengths. As a former public and parochial school teacher with a Bachelor's degree in Education, I have extensive experience in curriculum development, personalized instruction, and student-centered learning. As a former public school and homeschool educator with over 10 years of experience, I specialize in teaching English and History to middle school students in a way that is personalized, engaging, and adaptable to individual learning needs.
My Teaching Method & Techniques
I believe that every student learns differently, and I structure my lessons to match their unique learning styles—whether that’s through interactive discussions, visual presentations, writing exercises, or hands-on activities. Since I have worked extensively with students who have learning disabilities and social anxiety, I focus on creating a supportive and confidence-building environment that encourages students to excel at their own pace.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson is designed to be engaging and structured with:
A warm-up activity to activate prior knowledge
Main instruction tailored to the student’s preferred learning style
Interactive exercises, such as reading discussions, writing prompts, or history analysis
Feedback and review to ensure understanding and build confidence
I also provide practice exercises, but I believe in quality over quantity, so my assignments are designed to reinforce concepts without overwhelming students.
