About Jessica

Hello!
I am a fully qualified, passionate Foundation Phase educator dedicated to building confidence and a love for learning in young minds. I hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase, graduating Cum Laude, alongside a 120-hour TEFL Certificate completed with Distinction.

With over 5 years of professional, in-class teaching experience, I have a deep working knowledge of the CAPS curriculum. I specialise in the crucial early years where academic foundations are formed, offering expert, patient tuition and specialised intervention to support school success.

I offer targeted academic support in English Foundations (phonics, reading, and language skills), Afrikaans (First Additional Language fundamentals), and Early Maths concepts. Whether your child needs help bridging specific learning gaps, overcoming classroom challenges, or requires dedicated preparation for upcoming school tests and class presentations, I am here to help them thrive.

About the lesson

Is Afrikaans becoming a stressful hurdle at school? Learning a second language requires consistency, structured guidance, and a lot of confidence! I offer friendly, high-energy foundational Afrikaans lessons designed specifically for primary school students who need help navigating Afrikaans as a First Additional Language (EAT) or building a solid language base from scratch.

Our learning focus areas include:
* Building a Vocabulary Bank: Quickly identifying everyday words, objects, and verbs to read confidently.
* Essential Sentence Structure: Introducing the crucial STOMPI rules, plurals (meervoude), and tenses (tye) simply.
* Phonics, Pronunciation & Reading: Overcoming oral anxiety to achieve natural reading fluency and oral presentation marks.

My Teaching Method:
Language acquisition should be an adventure, not a chore. I pull from my extensive classroom background to deliver interactive vocabulary games, graded reading texts, and supportive conversational exercises. Whether your child is studying online through Microsoft Teams or face-to-face, I align our goals strictly with school requirements while removing the fear of speaking an additional language.

Qualifications & Experience:
* B.Ed Degree (UNISA): Completed with English and Afrikaans as the primary languages of learning and teaching.
* 5+ Years Active School Teaching: Years of daily experience guiding diverse, multicultural young learners through foundational language barriers in South Africa.
