About Joseph
Hi, I’m Joseph Cowlishaw — creator of the Wowflute, a pocket ocarina.
For over a decade, I’ve been building, refining, and handcrafting Wowflutes — more than 60,000 of them — each one shaped, tuned, and tested by hand. What started as a creative spark turned into a product loved by thousands, funded through multiple Kickstarter campaigns, and developed into everything from playful Swirl Wowflutes to heirloom-quality Relic editions in copper, white bronze, and sterling silver.
But what matters most isn’t just that I make them.
It’s that I understand them.
I know the design.
I know the sound.
I know the materials.
I know the mistakes.
I know how to fix them.
I’ve spent years experimenting with form, tone, airflow, metals, finishes, packaging, branding, and customer experience. I’ve sold at markets, online, and through live demonstrations. I’ve tested what works in real hands — not just on paper.
As a lifelong creative (14+ years in product photography and 3+ years in stop motion animation), I also teach with a designer’s eye and a builder’s mindset. I don’t just show you how to do something — I help you understand why it works, so you can create confidently on your own.
